Emtec Energy is delighted to have partnered with Diageo's Global Supply Chain division to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability at their Leven bottling facility. This collaboration underscores our dedication to providing advanced solutions for our clients. The project, featuring a 4.2MW total system size, now stands as Scotland's largest private wire-connected PV system. Our innovative approach involved the design and installation of Scotland's largest private wire ground-mounted solar farm, utilising SolarEdge's advanced technology.
Project Description:
The solar installation featured 7,728 Longi 545W modules, 3,864 DC Power Optimizers and 33 SolarEdge inverters, creating an advanced system equipped with an online monitoring platform. Emtec Energy's end-to-end services, encompassing Grid Connection, design, procurement, installation, and commissioning, highlighted our commitment to delivering a seamless and efficient project. We utilised state-of-the-art technology to optimize energy production, showcasing our dedication to excellence.
One of the primary challenges we addressed was the existing grid's capacity constraints in the local area. Through proactive engagement with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and the implementation of an export limitation scheme, we overcame these obstacles, enabling a swift deployment within weeks instead of the proposed several years delay.
Safety remained paramount throughout the project, at the Upper Tier Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) site, where we operated in a designated safe environment. We conducted thorough risk assessments and followed safety protocols aligned with industry standards. Integrating SolarEdge technology, including safety features like Arc Fault Detection Isolation and automatic panel shutdown, improved site safety and emergency response. Nick Blampied, Head of Commercial UK at SolarEdge, expressed pride in SolarEdge's involvement in one of the UK's largest private installations stating,
"It is reassuring that Emtec chose SolarEdge based on industry-leading safety features and added yield, which are paramount to such a project."
Annual Energy Generation and Carbon Offset:
The solar project at the Leven facility is projected to generate 3.89GWh of on-site renewable energy annually. This impressive figure accounts for nearly a fifth of the site's energy consumption. Importantly, the project will offset over 869 tons of CO2 emissions each year, aligning with Diageo's commitment to environmental sustainability and contributing significantly to their net-zero ambitions.
Emtec Energy's partnership with Diageo and EON on the Leven bottling facility solar project demonstrates our proficiency in delivering sustainable energy solutions. The 4.2MW solar installation not only highlights Emtec Energy's capabilities but also aligns with Diageo's commitment to reducing carbon footprint and achieving net-zero targets. This case study exemplifies how strategic collaborations and advanced technology can bring about positive change in renewable energy.
"SolarEdge is proud to have been part of this install, one of the largest private installations in the UK. It is good to know that Emtec have chosen SolarEdge based on the industry leading safest features and added yield, which are paramount to such a project.”
Craig Nick Blamp Hemmings, Head of Commercial UK at SolarEdge
